JAGMOHAN - O Varsha ke Pehle Badal .. sursagar - A forgotten singer
(LYRICS, TRANSLATION & VIDEO) Clouds, rain, saawan has great social and romantic significance in the sub-continent. They bring happiness and sadness in the life of the people.
Jagmohan -sursagar, has sung this geet like flowing water of Ganga with his marvellous singing has created a magic on Kalidas' poetry.
"The Lover requests the first-rain-clouds to go the village (Alkanagri) of his beloved and deliver the message- that he misses her. He requests the clouds, during the long journey through the valleys and rivers, they might face various attractions and hurdles, but they should continue their journey and deliver his message by raining (weeping)".
It is unbelievable that a composition of this calibre could be created in 40s with limited instruments. Only a genius like - Kamal Dasgupta could do it.
Kamal Dasgupta ji through his sheer talent, in this marvelous composition, has described the journey through the music. Jagmohan ji with his marvellous singing has created a magic on Kalidas' poetry. I took me months to match and create a befitting video on this great composition. By creating a video on his song, I am trying to bring the great composer and the singer into limelight and revive their grandeur.

(O! The first cloud of the Rain, please take my message)
Asuvan ki bundan barsaa kar,
(After shedding teardrops)
Alkanagari mein tum jaa kar, khabar meri pohaNchanaa
(and reaching Alkanagri, please deliver my message there)

Malbhumi aur Amrakoot se Vindhyachal Narmada ko jana
(from Malbhumi and Amrakoot, go to Vindhychal and Narmada(river))
Vidisha Nagarii aur Betwa tak ho kar aagey paaouN bhaRhana
(after visiting Vidisha (town) and Betwa(river), you move on)
Aag birah kii jahaaN bhi panaa
Aag birah kii jahaaN bhi panaa, baras baras kar usey bujhana
(Wherever you find the fire-of-separation, quench it by raining there)

Dekh andhera, dekh andhera piyaa milan ko chaley gi chhup kar koi gori
(In the darkness of night, a girl may be going to see her love stealthily)
basmein tum bijali chamaka kar khol na dena,
(by striking a lightning , do not expose
Khol na dena, khol na dena us ki chori
do not expose her surreptitious movement)
Birhan ko tum jahaaN bhi panaa, usey kabhi na satanaa
(wherever you find a woman living in separation, never tease her (by raining)

Ujjaini mein Mahakal ka mandir jab tum paawo
(When you find the temple of Mahakaal in Ujjain
PujariyooN ka naach dekh kar,
PujariyooN ka naach dekh kar, apana mann behlaawo
(you can entertain yourself by watching the dance of worshipers)
Par tum un ke ang dhang ko dekh attak na Jaawo
(but,while looking at their body and manners, don't get stuck there)
Shipra mein na, Chambal(river) mein na, Kurukshetra mein ruknaa
(do not stop at Shipra , Chambal or in Kurukshetra)
Kankhal meinn na, Ganga ki leharooN ko chumaney jhukanaa
(While at Kankhal do not stoop down to kiss the waves of Ganges)
Atal Himaalay pe chad ke, phir yuuN mudana Kailash ki ore
(Climb up on the unmoving Himalayas, and then turn towards Kailash)
Jyun chanda ko dekh ke pyaare, gaggan ko chumey jaaye chakor
(as if, O dear! the Chakor goes to kiss the sky after seeing the moon)
Alkaa mein phir dhundh usey tum, mera sandesa sunanaa
(and after finding her in Alkanagri, please give her my message (that I miss her a lot)

Dear Mukhtar Bhai, Meghdoot (meaning Cloud Messenger)was written by Great Poet Kalidas who lived in Ujjain. The story goes that A Yaksha (some superhuman) was given punishment and sent out of city (Zila Badar)The Yaksha misses her love and sends the message to her sweet heart, who lives in Alkapuri, through the rain cloud.
